How To Flip Your Parent and Student Meetings

Each year, we sit down with all of the students on our caseload and have 15 minute meetings with each individual student and parent where we discuss post-secondary/graduation plans (college and career readiness) and course registration/planning.
It takes me about a month and a half to get through these meetings with my 400+ students on my caseload. Now don’t get me wrong… I LOVE getting to sit down and talk with students and parents one-on-one. It is very life giving. What is life draining, however, is saying the SAME thing 400 times plus.

This year I set out to be more efficient (the maximizer in me). I am trying a “flipped meeting” style video that I am asking parents and students to watch before we sit down. I want to answer more of  my families’ specific questions; I want to hear myself talk less. I used Screen Cast-O-Matic which I wrote a blog post about HERE last Spring. I uploaded a 15 minute video to my YouTube channel and am asking parents and students to watch it before we sit down to have our meeting.

I received one email from a parent so far with good feedback, so I am looking forward to seeing how it goes overall!
